Lady Starlight was a performer Gaga had a relationship with during that time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007 after an appearance at the Lollapalooza Festival. While working as an apprentice songwriter in an internship at Famous Music Publishing, which was later bought by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga subsequently struck a music publishing contract with Sony/ATV. Gaga was hired to compose songs for Britney, Fergie, New Kids on the Block, and the Pussycat dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. In 2008, Gaga released her first album 'The Fame' to lukewarm radio play; Gaga was on tour throughout Europe and in gay clubs across the US to launch the album. However, it wasn't until her first hit 'Just Dance' came to the forefront of attention that Gaga exploded onto the music scene. Gaga was suffering from a labral injury in her right hip. She was taking care of it in secret for several months with the hope of being in a position to continue her tour. She was left unable to walk after a concert in Toronto and was in severe discomfort. The tour was cancelled.
