Tessa Tessa Amanda AmandaPointe Claire lies in that quiet part of Montreal's West Island. Most people do not know what the term means and assume it's a distinct Island that lies west of Montreal. The truth is, the West Island includes the entire portion of Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel is said to be from the West Island, although her time there was brief. Brugel grew in Courtice just outside Oshawa. She had a dream to become a dancer in the beginning however, due to an explosive growth rate, she surpassed all her dancing partners. According to an article in The Toronto Star she admitted, "In heels I'm 6' 1 inch. After I outgrew my male friends, I stopped. Dancers who have been in the past often go towards acting. In Bruce's case, it was the guidance of her drama instructor at high school that led her to take the step she was looking for. It was the teacher who recommended she try her hand at a character in the annual school production. After a few auditions, she became the lead actress on the show Anne of Green Gables. This led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with her Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows both on small and big screens. She attracted the most media attention after she got her role as Rita in the award-winning show, The Handmaid's Tale
